Brainstorming Ideas

- Adaptation from New York Day Women

- Characters:
        - mother: 55 yr old; 40 yr old
        - daughter: 30 yr old; 15 yr old

- Setting:
        - beginning:
the elder daughter is patiently braiding her mother's hair; while they are chatting, they start to talk about the past things; the daughter starts recalling those touching moments (flashback):
        - scene 1:
[ two monologues to express their inner thoughts ]
the first parent-teacher conference in the daughter's middle school; her mother did not go; when the teacher called out her name, asked her where were her parents, she rushed out of the classroom with tears; the first time saw her mother crying with crouching in the street
        - scene 2:
[ two monologues to express their inner thoughts ]
they received a letter from Haiti; her aunt hoped her mother can go back this year to attend her brother's funeral; her mother threw the letter away; she picked it up, and felt curious about the past which was hidden by her mother
        - ending:
back to reality: the elder daughter is braiding her mother's hair

- What I want to express through the play:
those specific details the author does not show in the book
             theme: mother-daughter relationship, suffering, sacrifice
